We visited the historic city of Nafplio back in the spring and couldn't help but blog about a must visit restaurant. We went during a busy weekend and it was quite hard to find a place to lunch as every restaurant/tavern was full. We noticed one place, however, that had the quickest turnover we have ever witnessed and since we had previously heard good reviews, we decided to wait the line. The restaurant had a descent amount of seating outside, inside and on the indoor balcony area. The interior had a more rustic feel but that was not what attracted us to Alaloum. It was food we were after!
Although the menu had a good selection, we ordered main courses from their daily specials. To start we chose the Alaloum salad and a plate of Fava and for mains the rooster with the traditional Greek pasta and the stewed beef with mashed potato. Our lunches were served in a flash which clearly indicated that everything was pre-made. The salad was one to brag about in taste and size! The main dishes were also good, nothing out of the ordinary but good.
It was clear as to why the turnover was so quick at Alaloum. The food was for the most part pre-cooked and the servers were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. It was so worth the experience though. 'Twas exciting! We recommend this place because the food is good with generous portions and you most likely won't have to wait. However, if it's a quiet meal you are after, this may not be your best option.
