Not Afuera, but Adelante!

Adelante is a fairly new restaurant for Kalamata and quite a unique one. It reminds me a lot of the type of trendy restaurants that I would visit back home in Canada. The design and decor inside and outside the restaurant are exceptional and give off a European vibe. It's obvious that a lot of effort went into creating the warm, perhaps you could say swanky atmosphere. The music is very pleasing and at the perfect volume so that it drowns out the neighbouring tables' conversations but allows you to hear those at your own table.

Deciding on what to eat was tough. Not because everything looked delicious and we couldn't decide but because the menu was such a mess of different cultural cuisines, many of which didn't compliment each other. I was keen to order the spring rolls but had nothing to properly combine them with since the other options were a mix of Mexican burritos and quesadillas, Spanish patatas bravas or totally Western burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches and wraps. Their main courses were a variety of different pastas which you could say fit the Italian description. We managed to piece together three different items off the menu that we felt would work best together without mixing up our palettes and our stomachs.

We ordered the Messinian Delight salad, the mini tarts and the patatas bravas. All three dishes were unique and very flavourful. The mini tarts were quite original and definitely left us wanting more. We were also very impressed with their patatas bravas as they were the closest we have tried to Spain's original. The tasty food made up for the confusing menu. We both saw items on the menu that we would like to go back and try like the Portobello mushroom wrap and potentially a burger.

The ambiance and the flavours made Adelante very much worth another visit, if not for food then definitely for a glass of wine. I advise perhaps ordering a main course and one appetizer rather than an assortment of different appetizers to share. Although we didn't get a chance to try the desserts, they had a very good selection on the menu. The fact that Adelante is located right in the central square of Kalamata, it makes it very easily accessible. Finally, the service was great! The server was very friendly, knowledgable of the menu and simply delightful. Adelante means, "come in" and we'll be sure to go back in again...
